Styling Tropical Prints

Somehow designers manage to capture the wild amazon, colourful screeching birds, eerie foliage and exotic flowers in  prints and slap ’em on a t-shirt. And it looks great.

Tropical prints are a way to transport yourself to the depths of a humid jungle, while your meandering around the concrete abyss of malls and cafes. Here a few outfits I’ve put together using  tropical-print pieces, to inspire your inner wild.

Parisian-Style Outfit Inspiration

We all drool after their unblemished skin, soft, tousled hair, long graceful limbs and the ability to eat a baguette without stuffing their face and spraying crumbs from their mouth, like the rest of us mortals partake in.

But the most coveted, magnified and mystical part of a Parisians life is their style. countless articles and adverts convince you that after viewing so-and-so images of these French bloggers and celebs or after stocking your wardrobe with these specific items, ranging from $1200 gloves to a white t-shirt worth a Harley-Davidson, you will attain the Parisian way of style.

This article is a little different. I have created and compiled a few outfits that have that Parisian, nonchalant influence that you can be inspired by, and put together at home using your own clothing items. So now you can munch on your baguettes, still spraying crumbs, but looking as chic as can be.

As, runway trends become more accessible and the weather gets colder, knee-high boots have been that ‘It’ item that are loved by all, but honestly, pulled off by very few – usually those who have way too many Instagram followers, looong toned legs and also amazing beauty, because the world is unfair that way. But, finally stepping into a pair of boots that are the height of a small child or large dog does not have to be a moment of fear or worry…well, take a look at a couple of these outfits I put together and see for yourself!

How To Style: Military-Inspired Pieces

Although the reason is unknown, military inspired clothing have been around forever, but their trend rank is shooting higher and higher, especially when the weather gets frostier. From jackets to scarfs to skirts, we’ve seen it all. Although I feel as if these pieces are used the same way by everyone, and there is no interest or freshness in the outfits anymore. So here are a few ways you can style them:

How To Style to beat the HEAT

There comes a point in the year where you know it is just too hot to wear that beloved and cushy leather jacket or those freaking expensive Prada knee-length boots that have you living off bread and water. Unless, of course you live in the north or south pole or something. But, just because the heat is kicking in and you are a sweaty mess despite the 20 showers  and going through five bottles of deodorant a day, doesn’t mean you just need to stick to a stained tank and boring, common jean shorts. Whether the summer has already come or is around the corner for you, here are a few outfits to help ya out:

LOOK #1

This a fun, simple look, with a play on tropical shades with the forest green top and golden yellow heels. Both the shorts and top are linen – which is great to beat the heat. The top sits loosely on your shoulders, but has a tie at the waist to add a nice shape. The white shorts can be worn under the top or with the top tucked in. The simple heels adds a fresh twist and with a few dainty rings, the look is done.

LOOK #2

This is a simple look, but there is an added complexity with the mix off patterns and fit. This cool bright-pastel (what?!) striped top is fitted and cropped while the tiny-gingham print shorts are a little looser and a softer texture, thus creating a pleasing balance. Add a pair of spunky heels or flats in white.

LOOK #3

A look suited for a party or fancy-event, this goes to show you don’t need a fancy dress to look classy and stay heat-free. Pair a deep-v neck crop top with long palazzos, maybe like the gorgeous lace ones shown below, and top off with cool statement earrings, a simple clutch and possibly a braided hairdo.

LOOK #4

An outfit to certainly brighten the day, this is a fun, flirty look. Pair a bright lace crop top with floral printed shorts, a step above from the shredded jean shorts, definitely. To finish, add a bangle (or ten!) and wear simple flats, but if you don’t mind wearing shoes in the heat, go for your fave sneakers.

LOOK #5

A quick last-minute outfit, pair any peasant blouse you’ve got with a pair of ripped boyfriend jeans. Peasant blouses are cute, loose and comfortable in the heat, and come in a variety of patterns. Add some glam with bright, bold heels and a gold watch.

LOOK #6

This t-shirt style dress is perfect for those disgustingly warm days, but you still want to look put together. Feel free to add shorts underneath. Complete the look with gladiator sandals, a quirky charm bracelet and a chic hat.

Finally here are a few dresses, and a romper, as I wanted to show you a few styles and examples of dresses that will make you the chicest and classiest guest at the party, but won’t leave you with giant sweat patches (we’ve all been there). Try wrap dresses or rompers in slightly more expensive-looking fabrics. Pastel shades are great too and spaghetti straps will be your saviour! Good luck!bth6
